Hamster Gym: which machine gives the most XP

Hamster Gym: which machine gives the most XP
Art: RollTheCal. Characters and miners: RollerCoin.

The Hamster Gym is the first building of the Grand Building event. Hamsters earn permanent XP there and can go past level 50 up to level 100, which improves their Expedition stats. RollerCoin published the rules, and here we did the math to find which machine pays off in each situation.

Getting started

  1. Open the Gym through the GYM button in the Expeditions area.
  2. Unlock a slot and install a machine from your Equipment Inventory.
  3. Choose the hamster. The screen shows duration, expected XP and durability used.
  4. Start training, with or without a Trainer. Once started, it cannot be canceled.
  5. When the timer ends, click Claim. The hamster stays busy until you claim, then enters the normal rest.

What each slot costs

SlotCostRunning total
1Free0 RLT
210 RLT10 RLT
320 RLT30 RLT
440 RLT70 RLT

Each room has four slots and each machine trains one hamster at a time. One Trainer can support several hamsters in the same room, but each session pays its own participation cost.

The machine math

Each machine has at most 12 durability segments. The first four columns are official data. The others are our own calculation:

MachineDurationXPDurabilityXP per hourXP per durabilitySessions from 12 segmentsTotal XP
Pilates4 h150137.5150121,800
Soccer8 h32024016061,920
Treadmill12 h54034518042,160
Treadmill Premium12 h90047522532,700

The result is clear: Treadmill Premium wins on both measures, with 67% more XP per hour than the regular Treadmill and 50% more XP per durability than Pilates. It also charges the Ultimate of hamsters that have one.

Among regular machines, longer sessions also give more per hour. On top of that, every session ends in a rest. Three Pilates sessions take the same 12 hours as one Treadmill, give less XP (450 against 540) and force you back into the game three times. Pilates only makes sense when you want the hamster free soon for an Expedition.

Trainer: how much it adds

Trainer levelXP bonusTreadmillTreadmill Premium
No Trainer0%540900
5+50%8101,350
8+100%1,0801,800
10+150%1,3502,250

The levels in between give +10%, +20%, +30%, +40%, +60%, +80% and +120%. The jump grows at the end: level 9 to 10 is 30 percentage points, against 10 in the first levels. The participation cost depends on the duration and the Trainer's hourly rate, and the screen shows the total before you confirm. Compare that cost with the extra XP: since the bonus is a percentage, it pays more on machines that already give a lot of XP.

Two key rules: upgrading the Trainer only affects new sessions, and its XP bonus does not increase Ultimate charge.

Durability and repair

More machines should come through Puzzle Events, progression rewards and the Forge.

Which hamster to train first

  • Hamster stuck at level 50: gains the most, since it had nowhere left to go. Heroes like Cuscuz only progress through the Gym.
  • Hamster with an expensive Ultimate: use Treadmill Premium and get XP and charge in the same session.
  • Hamster always on Expeditions: compare first. While training, it cannot go on Expeditions or do other activities.
  • Low on RLT: start with just the free slot. The fourth slot costs twice the third.
